And it also depends on how the survey was conducted ...
The reality is that wanting a HDTV, Cellphone, PS3, Wii or XBox 360 for Christmas are not distinct sets; some people who want a HDTV will also want a cellphone, PS3, Wii and/or XBox 360 as an example. If you ask someone a question like "What gift do you want most this Christmas?" you will potentially get a much different answer than "What gift do you want most this Christmas that you are realistically going to receive?" I may personally want a new Laptop but I'm certainly not going to get a laptop from anyone so my answer would be drastically different.
