I'm pretty sure they're planning on putting together a full campaign for The Last Stand, anyways, and personally, I think that if it's going to work like a typical campaign, they should survive.
However, there are ways to wrap it up differently. Valve is a creative bunch, I'm sure they'll do nicely for it.
I'd like to see L4D tied into Half-Life. o.o
