Had a similar reaction. There is a reason I have never played FFXI. What are SquEnix thinking with this really?

What you didn't want to pay a monthly fee, have a good connection, or just didn't want a ps2 hard drive  if your pc wasn't good enouph?

FFXI made them a CRAP LOAD of money, and is still profitable for them today as many Asian countries and a small but strong following of NA and EU gamers still play. Now that MMO games can actually run on consoles without the need of buying an HDD (well you might need to if you have an xbox and the release it on that which i think they will) and a Network Adapter.

Personally I'm craptasticly happy about this. My E3 wishlist was Monster Hunter Frontier 2 with an NA release, and Rapture.  Rapture was the codename for Sqaure-Enix's next MMO, ala Final Fantasy XIV.  I'm jumping up and down happy for this thing. It's funny when i walked into gamestop today JJ and Tim were just started yelling to me," Dude! Day one buy, we're making a guild or linkshell"

If you notice there are people in here saying they will pay for a subscription. If that's the case then they just need a following like the last game to make profit up the yin yang.

...try all 3. I have a PS3 with free online gaming and keeping in mind that I'm UK based where Final Fantasy XI never came out on PS2. I understand why but I'm dissappointed. I don't play MMORPGs. Never have. And I feel a little cheated as while FFXII is a good game, it doesn't feel Final Fantasy to me so I don't feel like I've played a proper FF game since... well X-2.

But hey, if they can get it out on time then good to them, I guess FFXIII being delayed has allowed the FFXIV team more development time. :P

Hmm, pie.
