or as you claim it could split the community ... but i see both vegas and vegas 2 doing well and cod4 and cod waw doing well for matches so i doubt it will be a problem 

When he says community he's talking about a lot more than matches. In PC games, the community is about playing games, organizing events, setting up servers, developing maps, mods and dev tools and probably more things.
