Well, it's not only the 3D motion sensing that's interesting about Project Natal, it's the facial and voice recognition as well. And the interaction with Milo was very different than Nintendo's motion controllers. The thing is that this project was a big surprise, and surprises are always good at conferences like these :) Also the games Microsoft displayed appeals more to core.

Sony showed and announced several strong titles for the PSP and PS3: Gran Turismo (for both PSP and PS3), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Little Big Planet PSP, Ratchet and Clank, Assassins Creed 2, etc. The Final Fantasy XIV was also a huge surprise. The motion control wasn't very impressive, I think it might be too little too late, and it looks very similiar to Wii. The Sony conference also was more serious in a way, not the annoying people and silly antics that seems to plague the Nintendo conferences.

I agree that there's been a lot off hypocrisy concerning motion controllers lately though.

Sony's motion controls had MUCH lower lag (much more responsive) and can be used with COMPLEX gaming applications.  For casual gameplay, EyePet shows a good deal of the PROMISE of Natal for MS at a MUCH ower price point.  You, also, forgot that Sony showed Uncharted 2 single player gameplay that was flooring.  They also showed God of War 3 gameplay with a playable demo.

On the gaming front, MS got crushed by Sony.  On the motion control front, Natal seemed "cooler", but Sony's motion controls DEMONSTRATED better/more practical usability.
