No, the hardware and software is different.  MS utilizes an infrared projector and a CMOS sensor to detect depth information.  Creating a skeletal system comprised of 48 discrete points.  Can this and the EyeToy do that?  I know the EyeToy cannot, I don't know what the hardware on this thing is.

I doubt this thing is much more sophisticated than your typical webcam.

As for the article, in my experience, people too ashamed to look at themselves in a mirror don't have the emotional strength to improve their fitness, anyway. :P
