@OP yes a signifigant diference. It's not just about the how it works, but the interface with the user.

the PS3/Wiiremote are controllers that mimic tools. Rackets, swords, handle bards, wheels, fishing poles....

Natal does away with the idea of the input being a tool and instead captures the motion. In essence Natal is all about interaction in a natural level.

For example if I were to use the PS3Motion as a paintbrush it's weight is all wrong, the handle is all wrong. With natal I could use the motion or I can use a real paintbrush.

Your perception of Natal and PS3Motion is all about the enthusiasts technical perspective, but from a perspective of the strategy they are different.

Just for a bit counter argument.  Without controller or thing to hold, I would say you may contradict yourself.  For instance, the painting demo that Sony did.  For me it is more natural to have something in my hand, in the example, controller as Paint Spray than simply holding nothing and make hand motion for it.   Same for sword or wheels.  I feel more natural to Hold Sword Or at least something, or hold a wheel than holding nothing and make my hand to look as if I am holding.

Then as you brought up, in natal you can hold actual painbrush.  This may or may not be true, but let's say it's true.  If we get into that level of peripheral, you may essentially end up buying peripheral for everything thing.  So I'd rather have one standard (like Wiimote), and have a little attachment as option in case we want to feel a bit more natural about it.

Would you consider "air guitar" more natural than "guitar hero guitar"?
