I see your point as PS3 motion control was actual demo of the technology, but Natal had its demo as well and supposedly Burnout Paradise (Racing) control and Richot were proven to actually work.

But at the same time, I can see promo video part may or may not turn out to be true. One example is PS Eye

The link above was promo for PS Eye before it was released. It showed detection precision to the level of fingers. (middle of the clip with guy making gun like hand sign.)
