To do that, you have to do what Gran Turismo, Halo, and GTA did, which is to be first to market with a multimillion copy game in a genre that isn't established. The problem Agent faces is that others have gotten the idea of doing a spy game, and will have them out before Agent hits the market. This is why I jokingly asked if the new trend was going to be games based in the 1970s. Like, do a remake of Interstate 76, for example, and a game based on "That 70s Show". GTA also had the added benefit of that former lawyer dude who staged a boycott against the game. That generated even more publicity for the game. |
You don't neccesarily have to be the 'first' in the genre, you just have to do it right; take Modern Warfare for example, it certainly wasn't the first FPS on the market, it wasn't even the first FPS to use the 'modern day' thematic, there were other games before it but none of them were well executed, IW deliver polish and simplicity in one neat package.
Identify the target audience (and make sure its a large one), make sure it's a damn good game and above all, promote it heavily.
Success can sometimes be that simple.
