Well, I played Final Fantasy 11 online for 4 years... So i know how the game works, it was 12.99 a month to play, anyone who played FFXI KNOWS that getting some of the Really amazing equipment or gear in the game was Hella Hard, sometimes unless you where in a good endgame linkshell, which was hard also because the Linkshell leaders would always get the items first, And most of the items would be dropped from monsters who requires 12-24+ players to take down, And Also these monsters wouln't respawn till 24 ( in real life hours) or even a week Which made people "Camp" monsters.
Mostly "Botters" Usually, Gil sellers... So.. this brings me to the free to play thing. It really wouln't surprise me, If FFXIV would be Free to play, And here's why. I remember trying so hard to get really good armor in the game, but it was really hard to in FFXI so i did what probably more than 80% of the people in FFXI did.. Which was buy Gil ( FFXI currency) with real money, First i would like to point out that these gil selling websites Make MILLIONS of Real money selling in game money.. So i don't see why SE would like to get money from this, Also if it really is Free to play, I think it's The BEST way to make the game Gil seller free, Which was a HUGE issue in FFXI.
By the way When i bought gil i remember spending 300 US dollars for 8million gil in FFXI ( I know Stupid of me lol), Think about it SE says.. "well if people spend this much ammount of Real money for our fake money, I think we should get a peice of the pie" So yeah, I'm sure the game will be free to play but you'll have to pay for some items, and maybe content ect..
