One could always just say that a market with lots of competition and cheap development suits Nintendo because they are brand focused and a market with moderate competition and more expensive development suits large 3rd party publishers because it reduces competition and allows them to take a higher profit margin. Therefore because the Wii doesn't suit the needs of publishers they were slow to develop for it and the deliberately gave a free pass to the HD consoles which weakened Nintendo and prevented their disruptive forces from going up market.
