Its simple economics. If 20 different companies made the Wii, the price of the Wii would be the cost to manufacture the Wii + 5% overall margins. The Wii itself would probably cost no more than $125. However the Wii is more than the sum of its parts and Nintendo has a monopoly, only they can make the Wii. Sony gave you the option to upgrade the HDD in the PS3, they failed to make it easy however. The minority that they cater to are so irrelevant, you as an individual with your ability to upgrade the PS3s HDD are irrelevant next to the sheer number of people who cannot or will not. No amount of bitching is going to change that fact.

You are right it is simple economics,  if given the choice alot of average consumers would take the time to learn how to put in a HDD if it could save them money.  An 120GB 2.5" HDD you can get for about $50-60,  so that would save you $60-70, over the Xbox 120GB, to learn how to swap out an HDD.   Especially when it only take a maximum of 15 minutes to do.  And I know that a phillips head screwdriver may look like an extremely sophisticated of a tool to use but I am sure they could figure it out.

All you are doing is trying to defend Microsoft for making as much money off of the consumer as possible,  which is why my 360 doesnt will never get a HDD upgrade.

Then you should know that upgrade the Xbox 360 HDD PS3 style is only a little more complicated than upgrade the PS3 HDD. So why don't you buy a WD 120GB HDD and upgrade your Xbox 360?
