Fair enough, I'm for that. Or at least lower inheritance tax. But it hadly fits in with their larger plan does it?

I dont see why anyone would have a problem with getting rid of inheritance tax. Its just a cheap and ugly way to take money off those who have worked hard to earn it.

I'm too lazy to comment on the rest of the post but inheritance tax has got to be the best tax there is!

Given that the government has got to get tax revenue somehow (and I know we can argue about how much they need, but they need to get something) I think inheritance tax is the best, or rather the least bad way to do it:

-Better than income tax which some feel punishes them for earning more

-Better than VAT which may discourage people from buying goods and services

-Better than business taxes which make companies more uncompetitive

-Better then tax on interest which can discourage people from saving

Frankly, if we have to tax people, then I'd rather it was dead people who got taxed than living ones. I don't think it's good for people to live their lives waiting in hope for a big inheritance from some relative when they haven't earned it, and it hasn't helped the house price situation in the UK either.

Sorry for the slightly off topic rant!

On topic: I voted about an hour ago. Very unfriendly people at the polling station but it was nice to go there as it's my old school! Grudgingly voted Labour for local and European elections.
