Surely you jest. Natal is a mocap camera right? This was seen on PS2 with the eyetoy, ergo it is not a mind blowing MS/Xbox innovation. If you want to give accolades to full body mocap in videogaming it must go to eyetoy as the point of origin. To be sure NATAL is a significant advance on the original eyetoy, though how much of an advance on the PS3 eye I don't know. You can guarantee that the NATAL will come out with some handheld peripherals because no matter what people will always want to have something in their hands if their onscreen persona is also holding something. In the end I think the NATAL and PS3 eye+wand thingy will be sufficiently similar that 3rd party developers will be able to make multiplatform titles for them, which is really to the benefit of both systems. If you get too much need for full body movement in videogaming then people are going to need to have whole rooms dedicateed to playing, rather than having the system in the living room with bits of furniture all over the place to trip you up. |
No I dont jest. People call the Wii nunchuck innovation when we have had sensors and pointers on previous games on consoles and PC's. Just because it has a camers means Eye Toy is to thank? I dont think so.
NATAL has full voice recognition. Even amongst other players in the room it can pick out your own. Full facial recognition. It knows each of the players by face and signs you in automatically. Full 3d body motion capture for multiple players. This sort of innovation for control has never been attempted.
Imagine no more typing in letters on your 360 remote. Instead you say what you want typed. No more needing a DVD controller. Just sit down scan through with your hand and watch FULL 1080P movies straight away. This isnt even close to what the eye toy was. And if your talking tech it's probably more like 8% eye toy 92% new tech. This is phenominal. Everyone Ive showed it to says they thought controlling your movie collection, flicking through Sky channels and Minority Report stuff was 10 years off. People love this news. Everyone I know wants it bad. If M$ advertise this well, anything can happen.
