I can understand Sony's decision. They desperately need cash flowing into the gaming division to fund the PS3 albatross (they'll need to cut prices this year if they have any hope of selling 13 million as they forecast).
So the $250 / 250 € price is probably just a trial. If they can get a lot of money from that, great for them. If not, they'll just quickly cut prices and continue to bleed money or just not cut PS3 prices.
