Good post... That was my take. You can "prove" that something is technically superior with polygon count and stuff, but even then it can subjectively look like crap if the style and execution is lacking, or just not to your liking. SFIV, for instance, has left a lot of people cold, despite its technical merits in its graphics. KZ2 is similar, as there are complaints about about "drab" level design, "cookie cutter" enemies, and "bad" facial animation. The OP cited Gears of War 2 as the "height" of 360's animation prowess, but you're presented with similar "drab" color pallette, "roided out" style... There's no way to nail something as "best".
