I worked at a hotel for years, at least once per day,
I would say, "I need your credit card"
The guest would say, "I don't have one."
Then I would say, "The Visa, Mastercard, Amex, or Discover that you made your reservation with"
"Oh, that's a debit card..."
If it has the Visa logo on it, you can use it like a CC. Why do people still not know this... (No, they are not being smart asses. They really don't understand that their Visa Check Card acts in lieu of a CC.)
And before you ask, if I said, "Credit or Debit card," then every time they would produce an ATM/Debit card without the logo.
Who made them the reservation? I know that these people didn't go online themselves and figure out how to make a reservation.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
