Yeah, it's not for everyone :)
I think a lot depends on whether or not the style appeals to you... if it does you'll probably play some online, make some friends, explore some awesome homemade levels (and take it from someone who's played 100+ hours, there is A LOT of variety out there, and I'm not talking about those lame music levels that noobs will tell you about) and that will define the experience. It's not really worth the effort to convince people they should like the game though, because it definitely is a more active experience than most games... everything revolves around either exploration (usually best with friends) or creation.
By the way, if you want to find some cool levels, look up someone on the site within the game (by their PSN) and you can browse through ALL of their bookmarked levels. That's by far the best way to find the good stuff. My PSN is Alic44.
