Something's awry...

If they are trying to make this a proper multi-media devise, a touchscreen would be really useful for using the non-gaming functions like music and movies.

then you have to ask the question, if it had a touchscreen, why not a sim card slot?

I'll answer your question with a question : why sell a range of phones & a portable gaming device as opposed to selling a portable gaming device which is also a phone ?

I don't think the PSP Go will have a touch screen 1. Because of the extra RAM usage 2. Because of it's limited usefullnesss 3.Because of the additional cost 4. Because of firmware requirments .

On SIM card issue - that's the jist of it, Sony would want to market this as a gaming device to gamers first and foremost. if it had greater connectivity, say through a phone function, you'd want to aim that at existing PSP users, and at the phone market. there is much space for confusion and i think Sony would be keen to avoid any confusion, but already people are saying the iPhone is a real competitor to the handheld gaming market as a phone.

On the touchscreen issue and lack of RAM,

- the DSi only has 16Mb and has a touchscreen, and a second screen.

- the iPhone does have way more - 128Mb and a touchscreen.

- The PSP2000 has 36Mb of RAM, which was more than the PSP1000, so there could be another RAM increase made available only for apps and not games.

BUT the PSP go will have 16Gb of flash memory built in, which, if used correctly can be used as RAM. so hardware wise,we don't even know the actual spcs of the system yet, but so far, its not badly off for touchscreen capabilities.
