Values of video games and video gaming

1. Affordibility - Consoles are (much) cheaper than gaming PCs. Affordibility has always been an important factor and one of the most obvious advantages of video games over computer games. In the last few years, how often have you heard or read that the 360 and PS3 are too expensive? Probably quite often. Sony and Microsoft ignored this value of video gaming.

The bottom of the line 360 is cheaper than a Wii.

2. Accessibility - "Pick up and play". Computer games always used to be more sophisticated than video games and usually had more complicated controls by using lots of keys on the keyboard. Video games were always simpler and required less buttons and less time. There were already controllers before the 360 and PS3 that featured a lot of buttons, but it became such a problem for these two consoles because most of their worthwile games require you to use almost all of these buttons. There's simply a lack of games that are easy to understand and that doesn't mean dumbed down games without any depth. It was a major misstep of Sony and Microsoft to forget about or ignore games for people who don't have the time to play extensive tutorials.

This has not been a standard since the 16 bit era and certianly not in the 32bit era. Are you really gonna tell me that the JRPGs from that gen (or most any game from the 32 bit era) were "pick up and play"?

3. Local multiplayer - This one logically follows the above two points. An affordable machine with accessible games that you can also play with your friends and family? Sounds like a great deal for your money. Where the Wii shines, it doesn't look so bright for the HD consoles. Local multiplayer is eliminated in a lot of games in favor of better graphics and online multiplayer. LAN is not an answer, it kills the affordibility.

All the current consoles have local multiplayer games. The Wii just has more.

These are the three major values of video games and the main reasons why people love them.

Glad to see the Wii and the Atari have so much in common.

Are you sure this is not one of your sarcastic threads?
