No, these "Doom and gloom" stories are based on numbers. People are realizing there wont be a comeback. There wont be a savior. That the PS3 will stay in last place. That Sony wont have a long life. And, heck, there might not be a PS4. All of this is based on facts (namely that the company is losing money at an unstable time). We also can't forget about the disruptor in the room (Nintendo).
