Lag wasn't the problem for me, it was everyone being Ryu/Ken and only being able to competitive if you were one those two.
I considered myself lucky any time I found someone that wasn't playing Ryu, Ken, or one of the 10 other Ryu clones (but it was mainly the Ken players who annoyed the Hell out of me).
