I think it could be the other way around actually. You still don't know how/when you get the max power-ups in the storyline, so there's no spoilers there. Also, just the fact that you want to get your powers at the maximum level for the lulz later on could just force you to be good and exploit every aspects the game has to offer while not getting killed by the enemies. Every battles are different that way, and you see how great all the mechanics work in the game.
