I wouldn't say we've somehow lost most of our freedom of speech, and would in fact argue we have more of it here than on your side of the Atlantic. The authorities here are a bit touchy with extreme violence (I would hardly describe Manhunt 2 as "mature"), but that's nowhere as silly as how insecure America seems to be with nudity and sex.
Not trying to start a flame war or anything, but can't let you go with a remark like that. =P
