Some contribution to the thread. DS vs PSP game library by genres.
"Total" Graph:
- Based on www.gamerankings.com average ratings.
- Only 75%+ games were included.
- Note that genre differentiation is somewhat subjective.
- Contains only selected genres, therefore doesn't represent full game library of respective platform.
"Total" Graph Score: 118 (DS) vs 105 (PSP).
"Original" Graph:
- Based on www.gamerankings.com average ratings.
- Only 75%+ games were included.
- Note that genre differentiation is somewhat subjective.
- Contains only selected genres, therefore doesn't represent full game library of respective platform.
- All ports and remakes were excluded from the list (including multiplatform titles unless were originally developed for either DS or PSP).
- Multiplatform handheld exclusive titles were considered as "original" for both systems.
"Original" Graph Score: 94(DS) vs 49 (PSP).
Conclusion
Mine, purely subjective interpretation of those graphs is to follow. Only genres scored 10+ are included in conclusion.
PSP: Mainly sports (28) and racing (14) gaming machine with some strong action-adventure offerings (12), though overflooded by ports and multiplatform titles in sports genre (25 of total 28 titles) and in racing genre (7 of total 14 titles) to some extent.
DS: Mainly puzzle (25) , role-playing (22) and platformer (16) gaming machine with some strong strategy offerings (14, including 10 of non-SRPG genre), to conrast with PSP little or no ports, remakes or multiplatform titles among mentioned genres.
