I would just like to go into the point of people being proud of their sexuality.

I believe it's fine to be proud of being gay.

The way I see it, people are proud of their nation or "race" (I don't believe there is a race anymore) because of what obstacles they have overcome. Mostly being a minority versus a majority. People of a country are proud of what they accomplished in the world. The Italians are proud of their Roman era heritage, the Chinese of their Empire, the Japanese for their rich culture in comparison to the rest of Asia and the role they now have in the world, the Dutch for winning the 1988 soccer cup (and the liberal ideas on Drugs, Gay marriage, etc.)
Race, same way. Blacks are proud of being black due to what they achieved the last decennia's.

Why can't the gay people be proud of what they accomplished? They have gone from being hunted down, killed, marked als unequal to full civilians, in some aprts of the world with equal rights as to marriage etc. And as of this moment, the movement is still growing. More and more countries allow gays to marry. Countries openly criticise freaking Russia for their stance on homosexuals and more and more people dare to come out. that is an awesome thing for a minority to do and they can be damn proud about it aswell.

The only thing I'd say is that there is a large difference between being proud of your country and that of your sexual preferences.

And why would that be?

Are you kidding? Do you truly not see a difference in being a proud American/Canadian/etc. and one who is a proud gay/lesbo?

No I don't, and I think I made it abundantly clear why not. Did you miss the whole point of a minority versus majority thing? Or what the minority accomplished against the majority? Could you please explain to me then what is so different? Aside from the obvious fact that one is a country and the other an orientation. By the way before you start, homosexuality is not a choice, just as it is not a choice where you are born.
