They won't.
They need to be PROFITABLE. R&D costs for a new console like an Xbox 3 would be $1-3b dollars USD....Over 4 years, thats $250-750m dollars. MS would forever be in the red if they pursued a strategy.
A full re-design with internal BC would be more likely, cheaper, and more succuessful.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
