FYI: the main quest planets are absolutely NOTHING like the sidequest planets.

*Most* of the sidequest planets are boring, and is the main flaw in the game.

A few notes:
- Hit detection is based on your proficiency with weapons, as well as the type of weapons you have. Early in the game, at a low level, you WILL be asking 'what's with the hit detection?' However, at higher levels, it's much more obvious, as your character becomes more proficient with firearms. Remember, this IS a RPG, and skills do come into play.
- You must suck at the game if you think it's that hard. Try it on insane. Play smart, use good weapons. Do non-fighting sidequests if you need to level up.
- Use the map instead of the radar if you want to know where to go. Radar only works for detecting nearby enemies.

The best parts of Mass Effect are the main story planets, which are radically different than most of the Side-Quest missions. I'd suggest you stay with Citadel sidequests, and then focus on main storyline planets. You'll learn to like it

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
