There are realistically only two generations left in the console industry perhaps even three generations. These companies are no longer just vying for short term dominance. They are vying to have the honor of being the one that will produce the omega console. Which well sell over five hundred million units. Computing is fast approaching the quantum threshold. You really cannot get smaller then atoms. Once that happens a consoles life span could be seen as being many decades long.

Microsoft is one of those companies that thinks long term. I recently read a article where they were developing a operating system for robots. How many robots do you see every day, and how many of those are so complex that they need a operating system. Microsoft laying claim to unspoiled territory I suppose, but then again in twenty years it might be paying of for them twenty or thirty fold for the investment.
