I don't know what your talking about(I didn't read before this post) but I know some games, like Lost Odyssey, were developed with existing engines(didn't is use Unreal, or something?), and had very few spell/attack/summon animations and no FMVs, and could concievably have costs MUCH less to develop than even a low budget PS2 game.

What? Lost Odyssey had a different animation for each spell. It had a frequent amount of FMV's and I'm pretty sure it cost a lot more money then you think mainly because they had to pay a 3rd party for the use of their engine

Well, I remember an opening cutscene(fmv?). Maybe they all just sucked, lol. I didn't like LO none too much.

That said, about the "animations" for the spells, you are wrong, sir, imo. Most of the game is just attack, and basic fire/ice/whatever spells over you or your party. There are no extravances in the battle system, and the best spells in the game, are kinda lame graphically. Compare it to pretty much any other JRPG, and the spell animations in LO are very, VERY limited(and often reused). No summons spells whatsoever, and just very simple overall. That is in my opinion, and it is a major reason I disliked the game. Very bland and repetitive.

That said, the game had great VA, but a terrible main character.

I would bet that MS has some sort of package deal with that engine. Either way, I figure it was a lot cheaper to use that engine, than to build one from scratch...otherwise, they probably would have just built it.

This is all just speculation.
