Your 360 must be faulty then as I have never ever had a 360 overheat for any reason, out of all my friends that own 360's (about 50) only about 3 of those got RROD, and putting it on carpet is FAR more damaging for a console than on a side or in a cabinet...
That's weird as I play on my 360 every day without fail and my batteries last on average two weeks, I bought a battery pack for £5, hardly a lot of money is it lol,
