I'm not well versed in this matter.
I'm just throwing it out here hoping someone can clear up my misconceptions.
Being of a different subculture I know a lot of people in that subculture.
And sometimes I ask them what they went through to be able to stand where they are now.
I know several people who came here to the US with just the shirt on their backs, stories about how people only had $20 when he got here, how lonely they felt to be alone in a foreign land, how they lived in someone's basement's for shelter, etc, etc.. They worked illegally for less than minimum wage and somehow managed to earn a living. And now almost all of them owns a house and has a family. And keep in mind, from where I'm from, education is not free(there are some public schools in the bigger cities) nor is it easy to obtain an education( not enough books, Have to earn a living to help the family at a young age).
Personally I don't think it's the system here in the US that's keeping the poor poor, I just don't think they try hard enough (of course there are exceptions to the rule).. Of course I'm putting my thoughts out here because I think I might be missing something and there is more to why the poor here stay poor.
