@ Hanzo. You make some valid points but:
1. You can't talk about the snout in relation to dog vs. cat because it's a beak, and neither dogs nor cats have beaks.
2. You can't talk about the fur in relation to dog(fox) vs. cat because it ain't fur, it's feathers (well it looks like feathers to me), and dogs, foxes and cats are pretty much featherless these days.
As far as any rat inferrences go the ears seal it for me. Those are not rat (rounded) ears. Edit: And what makes a cat-bird the more likely option is the fact that this creature is gonna have to do a bit of climbing, and agility work, I reckon, and cat's have it all over dogs in that department.
We'll have to wait for a cut scene shownng the creature landing after a fall: Lands on it's feet = cat, lands otherwise = dog.
