Um, context is missing here, is he saying the companies will go away or just the hardware?

I can see TV's being made to accommodate games specifically, but the purpose of a platform is proprietorship, when their is only one platform or worse no platform just something you can play games on, then you end up with internet.

Except if it's on a TV without the options the internet gives to the end user then you have a hybrid PC again. V_V

As long as the companies exist they are going to want to innovate, the only way to do that is to design compelling software to fund innovation, the only way to keep that going is to bring something new to the plate with each piece of software, in other words people would have to have either a very adaptable TV for inputting information without having to purchase Guitar Hero level (quantity) peripherals.

But platforms are needed for many reasons outside of just because they are there.

You need the hardware to show developers a canvass for them to imagine on, then the software to show the consumers what was imagined.

Otherwise you'll end up with a PS3 which is essentially a PSX with much much better graphics and a crappy web browser that locks up every 5 seconds. V_V (At least it has a web browser.)

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
