Christ said that he would not change a single law in the Torah, not that everything in it was literal. He spent half of his recorded life telling parables to people - stories that had deeper meaning were sort of Christ's thing.

While it's true he does not say to take the Old Testament literally, the point more here is that, for the Bible-believing Christian, most of evolution is incompatible with Scripture (that is, if this particular Christian thinks that the Genesis account of creation is not metaphorical).

It doesn't take much theological acrobatics in order to take Genesis as being primarily metaphorical.

But it does take quite some ignoring of context to think so.
