Mac OS X is fully capable of getting viruses. Due to its relative lack of marketshare and its UNIX foundation, it practically doesn't suffer from them.
Some hackers believe that the actual security of Macs is less than Windows, because Apple have not had to deal with security threats much so they don't implement good protection against certain attack vectors.
