4th Golden Age of Gaming:
PC Gaming late 90s
I have this sad feeling telling me that there won't be another "Golden Age of Gaming". Everything went mainstream and everyone are gamers. Gaming used to be an "underground phenomenon". It was special. These days all the excitement is long gone. PC gaming started to suffer after Amiga and other "semi PC systems" disappeared and as developing costs soared. These systems spored and supported the creativity in the PC gaming scene. PC gaming developers and Amiga developers worked in tandem and everyone benefited from it. All this creativity culminated in the late 90s. It then dropped as developing became increasingly more risky business. Every developer had to "play it safe" and things started to become more predictable. We can still see some developing scenes that resemble what we had back in the 90s, but it's just not the same (it's not cutting edge, it's retro). OTL
Discuss.
