Are you also going to bitch to Ford or GM when your car breaks down out of warranty too? Do you want them to hold your hand and tell you everything's going to be okay? You own something that broke outside of it's manufacturer's promised warranty. Keyword is outside. That means the manufacturer fufilled it's promise. It's on you now. It costs $150, do you want it fixed or not?

People who complain about this kill me, I don't care if it's 'been happening'...it's nowhere near the scale of RROD. How many of those consoles are still going strong?

Unfortunately, there's a failure rate with everything and your product falls into that percentile. We apologize, but hopefully for your convenience we will have a slightly cheaper model out after 3 years that will have a little lower failure rate. *que MS business strat*

It's similar to RROD, but again nowhere near the scale. The same strategy applies, you just don't have to doll out a billion like MS did.

sony could always man up and offer a 3 year cover like MS has for  its crap, i think it would be best for consumers and kill those in store warranties, also it would show more value in sonys brand if they preemptively did it

Why? Why would Sony do this, and how is it "manning" up, and why 3 years? If you want them to extend the ps3 warranty to 3 years, why not the Wii? why not the PSP, or DS? Why not TV's, or computers, or ANYTHING else you can purchase? The only reason the 360 warranty was extended was because it had ABNORMALLY high failure rates. If they the 360 had failed at the same rate as other electronic devices, MS would have never, ever, ever extended the warranty, it just wouldn't have made sense.

Sony dont have that great a record of well built consoles. In fact I remember the PS2 launch and the possibility of a recall, I had 3 PS2's. Even PS1 had major problems, I had 4. The PS3 Yellow Light has had an increase, why I dont know. But it made the 6'oclock news recently here in UK. Regardless, I enjoyed every console that failed. Although the 360 is the only one I ever had fixed for free by M$. Sony have always charged me or it was cheaper to buy new again. :)

Show me proof that this, and if it is worse than the 360's RROD was, i will conceed.

Cant find the exact figures anymore for number 2, but if I remember rightly nearly 300,000 PS2's were recalled in Japan because they didnt play all the games. They had to issue new machines to these consumers.

3. http://uk.gamespot.com/news/2541766.html

9 days after it first released 12,500 calls of failiures were made. This was only in Japan. As it was not released anywhere else at the time.

And here Sony made an internal error causing their customers to have to send products in, over 1.25 million. In fact Sony state that this caused them alot of money loss.

Do I need to go on. Now remember in the first 2-3 years the failiure rate was high because there were less consoles sold. The first year was somewhere round 40-50%. It got better for Sony because of the amount of PS2's sold. However the PS2 went through Version V0 - V15b ( I believe over 23 reincarnations of insides ). The slimline had issues on release to. But the DVD Drive failiure was the one which caused the forums to OVERLOAD. Type in PS2 DVD Drive failiure, and there will be more than 20 pages of different forums all for failed PS2 DVD Drives. In the first 2 years of the console.

1: Forum of people complaining is not an official statistic or fact.

2: Compatibility is not a hardware failure, and they got replaced anyways.

3: Memory card issues are not system hardware problems

4: 12500 calls were made to Sony's customer support line, that doesn't instantly mean all calls were regarding a broken system, don't make stuff up.

5: Power Adapter is not a system failure, and it was recalled (meaning you get a new one for free). My adapter was one of those, and the original didn't cause any problems in the months I used it, it was a safety precaution, the new one came before I sent the old one, so I didn't lose any playtime.

6: Come on, did you even read the article? The problem was that the ps2 worked too well, and allowed the Japanese to watch DVD's from other regions, which isn't supposed to be allowed. This is not a hardware failure, and if you didn't return it, you got DVD support for other regions.

Again, forum chatter doesn't equal facts. People will be much more inclined to complain, then they will to praise. You still haven't shown me any real percentages, only guesses, so your points are moot. I agree, and know that all electronics devices are not without their issues, the ps2/ps3 included, but there is no evidence that suggests either was as bad as the 360 and needed an extended warranty. Please do go on.
