Sony's biggest problem with Home is in their demographic. Home best resonates with social people interested in making friends and talking about their hobbies, particularly gaming, meanwhile creating a space that is unique to them that they can show off. In that sense it fills a similar role as Myspace, Facebook, Gaia Online, and Second Life.

The problem arises from the fact that most hardcore gamers (hardcore in the sense that they would shell out $400 for a console) tend to be relatively attention deficit and anti-social. Home doesn't cater to these people and it's these people who most often can't see the point in Home.
