"I wouldn’t sit and play an 18-rated game with my family on the Wii. Is there space in the Wii market for that? I think there is, but again, it’ all about finding out how big that is. Is it 5 per cent? If it’s five per cent of the market and you can own that space it’s worth doing because you can achieve volume. If you can’t own it at five per cent, it’s not worth doing, quite frankly."
My interpretation of that is:
- He thinks there is a market for 18-rated games on the Wii
- Need to find out how big that market is, possibly 5 percent?
- However big the market is, you need to "own" (sell to IMO) the whole market
- If you manage to own that market, there is enough room for a lot of sales
- If you can't sell to the whole market, not worth bringing out 18-rated games
Five percent of Americas and Others install base is about 2 million. I think Bethesda will be aiming for about that much in sales for their new game, and use that benchmark to determine if they should bring out future Wii games.
