I doubt the rest of the squad from ME1 is dead (Tali, Wrex, Garrus, Ashley, Kaiden, Liara), as they already stated that, depending on which ones died in ME1, they would return to ME2. Therefore, they must exist.

I still stand by the fact that Sheppard is either totally dead due to the Normandy attack, or his death was narrowly averted, and plays a very, very minor role in ME2.

 

Maybe they will exist right before they're actually killed in ME2!

Anyway, I'm eager to get more information on this game. I enjoyed the first one.
