I agree with you,to a certain extend but it is not the costumers fault that the price is really high and so they might choose a less expensive console.It happens with other products too .Even if they are astounding in terms of quality if they are not affordable to the majority of costumers they will opt for the cheaper option.
In addition l can relate with what you are saying last generation the Gamecube was underrated. The majority thought that it did not have much to offer.And called it a "Kiddie system".It finished last in the console race.Even though it still had an amazing first party line up support e.g. "Metroid 1&2,Pikmin 1&2,Wind Waker,Melee(which according to the smash competitive players is by far superior than brawl in terms of gameplay.It also had ground breaking third party title "Resident Evil 4" as a timed exclusive.
The Ps3 has franchise like Uncharted,Resistance,Killzone,God Of War all exclusive to the system.They definitely had a strong line up,in terms of software.
