I agree with a lot of what people have said in that GTA4 was a step in the wrong direction. GTA:SA in my book is the benchmark for the open world genre. A game that kept us playing for years. The place is so vast and so different you just love spending time there. Where as GTA4 just seems to realistic to the point it is boring.
So SA2 would be awesome and would sell like nothing has sold before.
However it wont happen.
For one the landscape has changed. Sony fanboys wont like it but your console is 3rd. It has the smallest install base of them all. Why would Rockstar release a game for a platform that will give them the 3rd biggest audience?
It would need big reasons to miss the Wii and the 360. Especially as GTA is more a western thing. Right now the PS3 is almost 10m units behind the 360 in america. The PS3 has sold just 8m units there. So seeing as america would be the main place for the sales it would make no sense at all to release it on the PS3 as an exclusive. In fact it could be company suicide.
As someone else mentioned people need to remember where the PS3 is right now in the food chain. When you have sold 100m consoles around the world and have blown your competition out the water you can get exclusives like that, people will beg to release it on your format. When you have sold just over 20m of a already 100m units market your not really in a position to get exclusives like that unless you give up some serious $$$. But seeing as Sony's financial results were heavily in the losses i dont think they will be paying the amount needed for something like that to remain exclusive.
But if MS and Sony can combine and give some cash to Rockstar to actually make the game and actually release it to GTA:SA level of gameplay then it would smash all gaming sales. A great dream that will remain just a dream.
