As long as Apple got rid of 90% of Sony's higher ups, it more than likely would work. I wouldn't mind having an Apple TV, I bet it would be very pleasing to the eyes.
As for a gaming rig, it would also be fairly appealing to me. I don't know how much money I would be willing to pay for it though. I sure as shit wouldn't want any kind of PS3 prices involved. Keep it around $300-$350 for its launch price and it would probably rock out.
