For "slower" games (i.e. non racing, flight sims, fighters, etc..) 30fps is fine. You really notice it on fast moving games though.
I personally prefer 1080i over 780p - but this could be a preference thing. In many ways, I think 576i looks better than 480p as well - but you lose just a little too much texture. 720p has a lot of scanlines, but 1080i will have less jaggies (and less clear textures).
Nicely done Naughty Dog - not having 1080i support would bite.
(pity though - you wonder what the game would look like at 60fps, running 1080p!)
