urNotone: You know what else has a rabid fanbase? Earthbound. You know how well it sold? (Actually, VG Chartz doesn't list it, I'd wager 600k between NA and Japan though). You know that Earthbound 2/Mother 4 on Wii wouldn't spike sales enormously, but would make some game players very happy.
So why would you believe Killzone 2, with exactly the same stats, would do the opposite? Why would a game that sold 750k on a 120 million base system instantly decimate and dominate for no apparent reason?
It needs 2 things. It needs to be good and fun, and it needs to be marketed. Not John Romero marketed, but marketed. If you don't know what that means, John Romero will make you his bitch.
And no, the PS3 is by no means dead yet, but it's clearly flailing. 4 Sku's within a year of release. They are grasping for marketshare as best they can, and one of the gambles may pay off.
