DLC has redered Blue ray disc to be pointless. Apples newest laptops dont even have a DVD Player!!! Nothing!

Well Explain LBP then?   I have heard it takes up 40GB of space on a Dual Layer 50GB Blu-ray Disc.  How would that fit on a DVD?  Would the Story mode levels have to be DLC then?

Well a lot of extra space taken up by PS3 games could easily be compressed onto a DVD and play exactly the same... things like HD pre-rendered video sequences (cutscenes) and the sound take up a be-jesus amount of space.

So the blu-ray discs in that instance are only any better if you happen to have a 7.1 sound system set up perfectly (ie by someone who knows what they are doing)

I think if blu-rays max capacity was only 25GB instead of 50, no one would have noticed any difference in the games at all.

I do agree they are a much better option than DVD though, 9GB is not enough for some of the more content heavy games, and LBP would probably not have fit on 1 X360 disc without there being some noticable difference.

(bare in mind I could be talking utter bullshit for all I know, as I picked up most of this kind of information from this site, but I  have a good memory for stuff like this so I imagine most of what I said holds true)

Also for the most part, none of that has anything to do with DLC.... DLC is a way for developers to make more money, that is it.... some of the extra content is even included on the disc but you can't use it (RE5). Some major problems stemming from the big jump in developing costs and time this gen are that if it takes so much longer to develop a game they are going to release it early without some of the content instead.... then the content that could have been put on with more time is sold to you at an extra cost. (occasionally some give it free though, which is nice)
