X-Box 360 is dominating America, but most of those sales come from "fly over" states and rural farm towns. Here in NYC for example, games like the MLB the Show have PS3 winning the HD console war easy. We all know that if Sony holds down key areas like major citys and Japan who are trend setters, then PS3 will be the more wanted item, while the 360's "walmart darling" bargain bin image could devastate the 360's chances for long term viability.

Oh really?  Here in Indianapolis and every major city I've seen, the Xbox 360 is still dominating in almost every single game.

Sure major cities have a chance of buying the more expensive stuff because that is a bigger part of their lifestyle and their wages are generally higher than other parts of the US.  That doesn't change the fact that apparently the 360 still has majority favor.

And it's funny that you mention the Xbox as being "'walmart darling' bargain bin image" and state that this could devastate it, when the whole concept of Wal-Mart is to sell things at the lowest price.  Oh and you know how there are 200 million Wal-Mart shoppers?  Yeah, not exactly a bad thing for the 360 to be favored by Wal-Mart.

But rural towns don't set the trends, anything big you see in a big city, the rest of the country follows.

Unfortunately the PS3 doesn't set any trends either.  Sorry bub but the 360 is still the favorite of the nation in big and small cities.  Also it dominates the media which is worldwide.  All the celebrities talk about their 360 and all the TV shows are sponsored by the 360..... well not all, but a lot more than the PS3.

Yeah and 2 years ago people were doing the same thing with Hummers and other gas guzzler SUV's, now they can't give SUV's away. 360 can keep the fly over states as long as Sony continues to dominate the big cities. NYC+Chicago+LA+Japan+Europe= PS3 wins. Why do you think PS3 is 3 million ahead of where 360 was at the same point in it's lifecycle? Smart people want a sytem that plays Bluray not DVD, this is 2009 not 1997.

Only Hummers and SUV's became less popular due to the economy because of the gas prices being too high.  The 360 benefits from the economy scenario where the PS3 does not.  Also, besides your anecdotal and unsourced testimony that NYC is owned by the PS3 for one game, there is no proof that the PS3 dominates the big cities.  In fact from my personal experience when traveling and watching TV, it would appear the 360 dominates big cities.

The PS3 is "ahead at the same point in time" because of many reasons, but that won't help it catch up with the overall sales.  In fact with it's current state of decline it is looking like the second year of the PS3 may have been it's peak.  Smart people want a system that plays the majority of the great games they want and costs less.  Blu-ray is only an issue for 10% of the total movie buying population.  No where near a big issue so apparently DVD IS 2009 still.
