GPGPU is the challenger! Can the Cell take on this challenge?

 

 


I agree on it, I just made a study on GP-GPU which is very promising. But GPU are still not that flexible as SPU in Cell. And please compare Cell to something from 2006.

New Cell which should arrive this year may change the game again (32 SPU, 4 hyperthreaded Power6or7 Core)

 

Its unfortunately not that simple, GPUs have simply got huge economies of scale and their development is extremely rapid. This year we will have 2 TFlop+ GPUs with more advanced compute shaders and they will each likely cost far less than a single one of those new Cells.
