Just read a thread on Howard Stinger Comments which can be found on this thread.

"We developed brand new, absolutely incredible technology for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), but the cost was high", Stringer told Nikkei Electronics Asia. "We've adopted a slightly different approach now, and are evolving the PS3 into a platform for web services".

So if they feel that PS3 is evolving than how ppl are expecting to have such a short life.? i mean the management of Sony is definitely seeing potential and they can take full benefit out of it, if it has a longer life span..

I wander why ppl are so adverse to the idea that PS3 is going to live a bit longer .. it doesn't mean it will be as successful as PS2 or Wii but.. when Sony have put so much in the infrastructure and technology in PS3 and they are making it center of their services than how can they dump it suddenly.?

It's interesting to Note that While these New Implementations while Incldue the PS3...They really are for the PSN......What I understood from this report was that the PSN is going to be implemented in more places than the PS3

"A diverse range of electronics will be connecting to the Internet in the near future, tapping Web-based services, and we have to think about what we need to do to make our customers - the king - like our products."

At the time, we thought we would make more money that way than with open technology, because we could manage the customers and their downloads.

We have to create a sanctuary which provides customers an environment for their enjoyment.
That is how we can change a threat to the content business into an opportunity.

“Next we will be expanding the PlayStation Network to hardware other than the PS3, because the number of PS3 units sold puts a limit on the scale of the network possible."

The Internet and information technology have changed all that. And if we don't adapt accordingly, we will lose our customers to the competition.
